SAT 23 JUNE
SAT 23 JUNE
Every year more than 22,000 New Zealanders will learn they have cancer. This is why the Cancer Society must raise more funds each year so it can support as many of these people as possible through their cancer journey. A listening ear; an information booklet or reputable website; a turban or a beanie to help with hair loss during treatment; practical assistance in navigating our complex and, sometimes, confusing health system; motel-style accommodation for patients receiving treatment at Christchurch Hospital; or transport by a volunteer driver to reduce the stress of daily travel and provide companionship en-route to medical appointments are among the regular services freely offered by the Cancer Society.
We could not provide these much appreciated services and programmes in the community without your special support of our annual Cancer Society Ball. Your continued endorsement of our work provides hope for those 60 New Zealanders each day who receive a cancer diagnosis. Living with cancer can be very hard, but finding help and support shouldn’t be, and your attendance at our Ball will ensure we can be there to support those people who hear the words you have cancer.
YOUR HOST FOR THE EVENING:
New Zealand's legendary broadcaster and television personality, Hilary Barry, will be ditching the news desk to join us in the ballroom for our most electrifying night yet.
Having previously hosted Newshub, The Paul Henry Show, Breakfast and now co-hosting Seven Sharp, as well as pulling in plenty of 'Presenter of the Year' awards over the years, you can expect Hilary to run the show like a pro on Saturday 23 June.
The top dogs from Harcourts will be out in full force to auction off another 12 luxurious money-can't-buy experiences. As always, the Harcourts Live Auction will be rounded off with our premium item – business class flights to anywhere in the world, courtesy of our long-time supporters, Singapore Airlines.
Every year we aim to raise more for the cause. In 2017, we collectively raised a whopping $208 000 – and with you by our side, we reckon we're in for another record-breaking year...
The digital silent auction is back!
Whether from the couch, on your work-break or on the night of the Ball, everyone in and around Canterbury will be able to bid on our growing range of stunning silent auction items.
Biding will open on the 1st June.
AN EPIC DINING
Since we can remember, Vbase have been serving up culinary delights for Cancer Society Ball guests year-on-year – and 2018 will be no different.
We are putting a new spin on this year's dining experience with delicious moments for you to feast on throughout the evening - all led by Vbase's talented head chef, Dan Shanks.
Just you wait...
HIRE A SERGIOS SUIT
TO HELP FIGHT CANCER
Hire a dinner suit, shirt and bowtie from Sergios Menswear Merivale for $189 and $50 from your hire fee will be donated directly to the Cancer Society Canterbury West-Coast Division.
The total raised by Sergios and all you generous gents donning one of their suits will be announced at the Ball.
SAME BANGIN' VENUE
We're returning to where all the magic happened in 2017. Be welcomed back into the home of our favourite host partners Vbase at their standout venue –Horncastle Arena.
It's time to make room for more guests and more spectacular moments.
Feeling lucky? The famous $20 Youngs Jewellers Golden Ticket is making a glamorous return... This year, the gem to win is a beautiful White Gold Tanzanite and Diamond Cluster Ring.
Tanzanites are a very rare violet blue gemstone, mined exclusively at the bottom of Mt Kilimanjaro.
Here's a handy hint – the more $20 Golden Tickets you buy on the night, the better your chances of going home with an extra sparkle...
NOBLE & SAVAGE
Local tea merchants, Noble & Savage, will be setting up a boutique brewing retreat in the ballroom, featuring a range of their premium and unique loose leaf blends – from traditional black to herbal varieties. During pre-drinks at the beginning of the night, a mini iced tea station will be available for those after a non-alcoholic delight.
You know us – we like to keep things super classy in the ballroom. We're ensuring an extra luxe experience for all with our late night Whisky Lounge.
Chivas Regal are supplying their finest scotch blends, so please – pull up a leather pew, pour a dram and toast to the finer things in life.
The caffeine connoisseurs from Coffee Supreme will keep you on a good buzz all night long with barista made coffee, smooth filter coffee and generous hospitality. From 7pm onwards, you'll be able to get your fix of the best brew in town – which will come in handy when it's time to hit that dance floor.
'BEAU OF THE BALL'
The competition to take out best-dressed male is fierce – last year we saw a crowd of well-groomed blokes pulling off colour, designer wear and even a couple of killer kilts.
What will you be wearing to stand out? Sergios have big rewards for this year's Beau, so it's never too early to start planning your stylish fit out...
