SAT 23 JUNE
SAT 23 JUNE
Every year more than 22,000 New Zealanders will learn they have cancer. This is why the Cancer Society must raise more funds each year so it can support as many of these people as possible through their cancer journey. A listening ear; an information booklet or reputable website; a turban or a beanie to help with hair loss during treatment; practical assistance in navigating our complex and, sometimes, confusing health system; motel-style accommodation for patients receiving treatment at Christchurch Hospital; or transport by a volunteer driver to reduce the stress of daily travel and provide companionship en-route to medical appointments are among the regular services freely offered by the Cancer Society.
We could not provide these much appreciated services and programmes in the community without your special support of our annual Cancer Society Ball. Your continued endorsement of our work provides hope for those 60 New Zealanders each day who receive a cancer diagnosis. Living with cancer can be very hard, but finding help and support shouldn’t be, and your attendance at our Ball will ensure we can be there to support those people who hear the words you have cancer.
New Zealand's legendary broadcaster and television personality, Hilary Barry, ditched the news desk and joined us in the ballroom for our most electrifying night yet.
Having previously hosted Newshub, The Paul Henry Show, Breakfast and now co-hosting Seven Sharp, as well as pulling in plenty of 'Presenter of the Year' awards over the years, it's no surprise Hilary ran the show like a pro on Saturday 23 June.
The top dogs from Harcourts were out in full force, auctioning off 13 luxurious money-can't-buy experiences. As always, the Harcourts Live Auction was rounded off with our premium item – business class flights to anywhere in the world, courtesy of our long-time supporters, Singapore Airlines.
For this year's live auction, 850 guests collectively raised a whopping $92,950 – contributing to the massive $167,000 raised in total.
The digital silent auction made one heck of a return!
Whether lounging on the couch, on work-breaks or in the Ballroom, everyone in and around Canterbury bid big on 99 stunning silent auction items.
AN EPIC DINING
Since we can remember, Vbase have been serving up culinary delights for Cancer Society Ball guests year-on-year – and 2018 was no different.
From white miso cured salmon to smoked duck breast, high country merino (courtesy of Silere Merino) and popping – the Vbase team and their talented head chef, Dan Shanks, didn't hold back this year.

SAME BANGIN' VENUE

The famous $20 Youngs Jewellers Golden Ticket made a glamorous return to the 2018 Ballroom... This year, the rare gem to win was a beautiful White Gold Tanzanite and Diamond Cluster Ring.
More Golden Tickets were purchased than ever before, raising $19,120 towards the night's grand total.
NOBLE & SAVAGE
Local tea merchants, Noble & Savage, set up a boutique brewing retreat in the ballroom, featuring a range of their premium and unique loose leaf blends – from traditional black, herbal varieties and refreshing iced tea delights.
You know us – we like to keep things super classy in the ballroom – and an extra luxe experience was ensured with our late night Whisky Lounge.
Chivas Regal supplied their finest scotch blends, so guests could pull up a leather pew, pour a dram and toast to the finer things in life.
The caffeine connoisseurs from Coffee Supreme kept guests on a good buzz all night long with barista made coffee, smooth filter coffee and generous hospitality. 850 guests were able to get their fix of the best brew in town – which came in handy when it was time to hit that dance floor.
THE BELLE AND BEAU OF
The competition to take out best-dressed gal and guy was fierce this year – with a crowd of well-groomed blokes pulling off colour, designer wear and even a couple of killer kilts.
This year's Belle received $1,000 worth of goodies to spend at The Colombo, while the Beau got his hands on $200 to spend in store at Sergios, Hugo Boss Eau de Toilette and Deodorant Stick, Ben Sherman Portobello Heritage Watch and Paul Smith socks.
